We are extremely proud to share this with you that on the 24th of October,15 three students from our school went on an internship programme for one week to CERN – the world’s largest and most respected centres for scientific research in Geneva, Switzerland. They are among 25 students who got selected from India to go and be a part of the daily work of Famous scientists.
On 25th evening they reached Geneva and after having dinner they took rest. Next morning the students left the hotel after having their breakfast at around8:00am. On the first day, during the first lecture students were briefed on their schedule for the week. The second lecture was about how reactions takes place. After having lunch at around 12:30pm their visits started and they got to see many machineries which is available only at CERN.
On 26th October, 2015 our students attended lectures till 12:30 and then visited the Data Centre of CERN. Students saw the main server of CERN, they also saw the server centre where the World Wide Web was invented.
On 27th October, 2015 the students attended a lecture conducted by a Nobel Prize winner and then at around 11:30 am the students were divided into groups for the famous CERN treasure hunt. Students were given a clue and left alone in the city for the treasure hunt which covered the whole city, the treasure hunt ended at 6:30pm.
On 28th October, 2015 the students visited the CMS tunnel which is located 80 feet below the ground (in France). They were told how people are protected from the harmful radiation caused by the experiments. Students learned a lot of things from this visit and when asked they say it was the best part of their visit. After the lunch they assembled in the experiment hall where they were divided into random groups for an experiment and the students successfully made a “Particle Detector”.
