Communication makes the World Go Round: 15-04-2017

Communication makes the world go round. It facilitates human connections, and allows us to learn, grow and progress. It’s not just about speaking or reading, but understanding what is being said – and in some cases what is not being said.

The students of Grade 4 to 7 had an activity-based session on Communication Skills on Saturday, 15th April, 2017.

The session started with an activity of expressing emotions conducted by Anusha Kaushal (a student of Grade X – Batch of 2016-17). Anusha said: “we display several emotions and feelings but displaying the right emotion at the right time needs good communication skill”. She then conducted ‘Eat the Topic’ where a few students got colourful candies and they spoke on different topics.

Anusha’s enthusiastic activities were followed by Ms. Chandramukhi’s enlightening words. She emphasised on being patient listeners because listening attentively is necessary for effective communication. She conducted ‘Chinese Whispers’. Through the activity, the children saw for themselves the results of not listening carefully.

The children then played ‘Transfer Gap’ conducted by Mr. Danesh. A team comprised two members. One member had to instruct the other about the details drawn on a sheet of paper. The other member had to draw accordingly. This needed both listening and speaking skills.

Ms. Chandramukhi summarised the activities by stressing on the importance of good communication in our lives.

The principal, Dr. Subhash Kumar ended the session and promised many more valuable sessions throughout  this academic year.
