Taurian World School hosted its 9th Annual Sports Day 2018

“Success isn’t given, it’s earned; on the track, on the field, with blood, sweat and the occasional tear.”

The above quote stood true when, on the 10th of February 2018, Taurian World School hosted its 9th Annual Sports Meet, a day filled with fervour and excitement experienced amidst high adrenaline, thrills, shrills, cheers and tears. 

Dr. Subhash Kumar, Principal in his opening address welcomed Ms. Sumrai Tete, Captain – Indian Hockey Team & Dhyan Chand Awardee and Ms. Reena Kumari, an Olympian Archer as Guests of Honor and invited them to raise the Sports flag to mark the beginning of the Annual Sports Meet. Furthermore, he went on to give a wonderful message on how sports teaches us togetherness. He emphasized that Togetherness is very much required in life in whatever we do or undertake to do. He concluded the speech by motivating the audience to think beyond and think different to make our motherland proud. He welcomed the guardian present there who have come to support their child.

About our Guest of Honors

Ms. Reena Kumari, represented India in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Ms. Kumari is also a member of the 8th Place Indian Women’s Archery Team. Ms. Sumrai Tete, is a member of the India women’s national field hockey team. She played with the team when it won the Gold at the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games. She was honoured with the prestigious Dhyan Chand Award by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for her achievements and contribution to Field hockey in India. She is currently the brand ambassador of Hockey in Jharkhand and trains the State level hockey players.

Annual Sports Day

The day started off with the lovely rendition by the school choir to pay salutations to the Lord Almighty followed by flag hoisting. This was followed by synchronized Inter-House Ceremonial Salute to the Guest of Honors, a highly competitive event where the four houses eyed for the first place. The day was declared open by the lighting of the Annual Sports Meet Torch which was carried by Mast. Soumyavardhan (Deputy Sports Captain, Man of the Match & Series in TPL2, Best Cricketer, Recepient of Hindustan Pratibha Award for excellence in Academics, Aims to become a Doctor) followed by Miss Zeba Khatoon(Sports Captain – Girls, won many accolades for the school, a promising Basketball player) followed by Miss Rakshita Raj (Deputy Sports Captain – Girls) and Mast. Gyanesh (Sports Captain – Boys, Aims to become a football player and a successful businessman), a symbol of fair play and true sportsmanship followed by Oath Taking of the Student Representative Council members. The audience next witnessed various displays symbolizing alternative sources of energy. 

All impressive performances by the Equestrian Team kept the audience enthralled. The Guest of Honor addressed the gathering with her thoughtful speech and said that one should be 100% committed to whatever he / she is doing along with a pinch of discipline which can make them achieve anything in life. This was then followed by the displays which made way for the highly awaited athletic events where competitiveness among the students soared through the sky. At the end of the day, students departed with a clear smile on their faces as the Phoenix House emerged as House Champions. The Annual Sports Day which was filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish came to an exciting close.

The beloved Principal of this esteemed institution, Dr. Subhash Kumar, thanked all the teachers for their cooperation and support and advised children to keep up their sportsman spirit.
